Report on SjsBand ‘10

Year 2010 is a year where Josephians will never forget about what SjsBand had given. The season started off when the 08/09 Board handed-over the team to the 09/10 Board under the leadership of Jeffrey Law & Ian Rino. The first event was a parade performance for the Kuala Lumpur World Marching Band Competition (KLWMBC) 2009’s Opening Ceremony at Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur. In addition to that, the Drumline of SjsBand joined the Drum Battle of KLWMBC ’09 and managed to emerge 2^nd runner-up in the international competition.

In January 2010, SjsBand received tremendous feedback from the band recruitment drive where they received more than 50 interested new recruits joining the band. Unfortunately, only those who are strong willed & have high perseverance stayed on till today where their number compensate one-third the size of SjsBand this year.

In the month of March, the whole team was introduced to the 2010 Drill Show Music; an original composition of an American composer George Gershwin, titled ‘Concerto in F’ and was specially arranged by Mr. Jonathan Fox, SjsBand coordinator and local composer Mr. Anthony Wong. As for the drill show design, it was designed by a Musician cum Architect, Mr. Benedict Lo, an Indonesian colour guard instructor, Mr. Hassan Selamat and not forgetting Mr. Wilson Tan, the battery instructor for the year 2010.

In April 2010, SjsBand was invited by the Sarawak Sport’s Council to perform for the Majlis Sukan Sekolah-sekolah Menengah Sarawak’s (MSSS) Opening Ceremony held at the State Stadium. Their performance was an awe inspiring and made the school reputation went higher. This was followed by the St. Joseph’s School Annual Sports Meet held at the Jubilee Ground. Not forgetting all about the School Level Teachers’ Day Celebration.

After six months of hard work, the day SjsBand was waiting for came on 28^th June 2010 where their hard work paid off in full during the NATCOMP Preliminaries East Malaysia Zone 1 where they performed their 2010 Drill Show entitled ‘Concerto in F’. The band managed to achieve a score of 71.7 points, making them 2^nd runner-up in the top ten competing bands for the NATCOMP Grand Finals. The once believed to be a ‘kampung’ band now transformed into a ‘world-class’ performing middle school band. The Josephians Family was proud of SjsBand for being able to place itself among the top Malaysian bands.

Their 2010 season ended after the NATCOMP Grand Finals 2010 held at Stadium Malawati, Shah Alam on 15^th July 2010. Although it was just a two week break between the Preliminaries and Grand Finals, SjsBand managed to polish up their show to a ‘world-class’ classical-contemporary drill show. SjsBand shocked the whole nation by their awesome performance during the performance with their energetic gestures and entertaining show. As for the placing, they were placed 4^th with a score of 84.75 points.

Year 2010 was a historical year for SjsBand. They were the first middle school band in

Malaysia

to fully utilize a concert ‘pit-percussion’ instrument in their drill show. They were also the only band who performed a continuous 10 minutes drill show combining classical, contemporary, jazz and rock and roll music. They have carved their initials in the history of marching bands in Sarawak and

Malaysia

. All the time they have spent practicing under the hot scorching sun paid off. All the hard work and effort was worthwhile. They have given out their best during every performance. They also have improved themselves, physically and mentally. Once there were the little kids but now they are a fully awaken teenagers. Being in the band was an experience of lifetime and band members became more disciplined and matured as a result of their hard work. It was God’s work and blessings that SjsBand had gone this far for this year regardless of the hardships faced.

We would like to thank our teachers, instructors, alumnus and parents for their continuous and loving support in making this year’s program possible. Thank you and May God bless you all. ORA ET LABORA!

The marvelous competition was held at SK S.E.D.C in Sibu, Sarawak two weeks ago. Due to my hectic schedule, I only managed to blog about it today. =S

This years competition was indeed very different compared to the past. We stayed at a Pastoral Centre in Sibu which a very wonderful place where we have 16 dogs to guard the place. ;)

This year, before we enter the field for competition, I could say that 90% of the SJSMSB members cried not because of sadness or regretful of something but we felt something. When the instructors & teachers told us that we have supporters from all around Malaysia & also London, we were so touched that we cried & indeed we performed a superb show that caught all the crowds around SK S.E.D.C.

After our performance, I felt very relieved because I have done my best. I am sure the others felt the same way too. I told myself after the performance, "I have done my best. Even if we don't win this year, it's okay because we had performed a tremendous show. It is also quite impossible for us not to win. =.="

I am sure what we had practiced before was fruitful. After the competition, we had a short session with the judges to hear about their comments on our show. I am sure we had to work hard & improve after this.

On the night of the day of competition, a parent from our SJSMSB sponsored us to a dinner at Kingwood Hotel & we really had fun that night. It was full of surprises that was unexpected.

After the competition, we came back to Kuching the next day & we had another performance in our very own school. We performed to our school mates & even visitors(primary school students from Singapore).

I had no comment about the performance. Haha. Overall, SJSMSB improved a lot since 2006 & we improved every time when we run through the show in Sibu according to our instructors. ;)

What's up? We will go to the Nationals which will be held in Johor Bahru in July(according to public sources). SJSMSB might also go to Wonju, Korea to join The 1st Asia-Pacific Marching Bands Championship Wonju 2009.

I would like to thank everybody for their continuous support towards SJSMSB especially our parents, teachers, instructors & supporters. THANK YOU. What should I blog about today? It has been quite some time since I last wrote properly in my blog & that was since 11^th February. =.=

My life as a Josephians is rather hectic due to the daily schedules. Lolz.

Right now, I can’t even remember what I went through for the past days till I have to refer to my ‘diary’ to blog. So much for a forgetful 15 years old boy like me. Lame me. =.=

After 11^thFebruary, it was Valentine’s Day. ;) Did not do anything much on that day except attending band practice & went for the “Valentine Talentine” organized by the SJS Prefectorial Board & the Red Crescent Members. That event was indeed very terrible for me as I did not imagine that it was like that. I thought it was something like Band Idol 2009 but it proved me wrong & I can say that it is far worse that Band Idol 2009. No offence to those who were involved. =S

A week after V-Day, it was the prefect interview. The interview was the same day as the Performance for the Tourism Ministry. What a coincidence. Sad to say that I was not selected to be the school prefect. So this gives me an opportunity to be more reckless. Not. The interview was kind of cool for me as it was the second interview of my life after an interview at PC Image that I did not went through too. Sad for me. ;’(

Days past as usual till the first Band Camp of SJSMSB where we actually stayed-in for 4 days & 3 nights. The camp was something unforgettable for we completed half the show for 2009 in just 5 days. Cool huh? I can still remember the hot sun. My skin burnt badly & today you still can see the effects of the sun towards my skin. It’s peeling off slowly dad by dad as if I have skin diseases. =.= The other band members were like “pure Indians” after the camp but I was more like a crab being cooked. During that camp we learnt a lot. We watched videos. I mean Band Films not the one which is in Blue. I don’t watch those like some of them did. Sigh. There was treasure hunt too & also “Band Idol” where band members have to perform for our parents. It was an event of great laughter seeing what band members can “produce” from the camp. I hope we can have another one like this soon. ;)

That was Band Camp. I did not go to school on the next day. I declared my own holiday at home. =.= If I was not mistaken that was the second time I did not go to school for being tired or lazy. The first time was on a Friday where I woke up at 7am so I decided not to go to school. I am so lazy right? Please do not follow me. Lolz.

After Band Camp, we students have to go to school for four days but it was three for me. After that, there comes the first term school break. Before the school break, our band still managed to hold a practice. Yeah, it’s tough but we made it through. ;)

During the school holidays which includes today, my days were not so free as I am a choral speaker & the school’s choral speaking team had practices everyday. I was supposed to be an intensive practice but you know, sometimes people are not responsible enough to be present for the practice. What a waste & it is so disappointing. (What’s the point? If we practise without the others? Why leave a hole there? We are a team, we do not leave anybody behind. We shall never let anybody walk alone. =.= Remember, you only have one chance so do not lose it. Give in your best for everything you do. Everybody is important. Do not let your own team mates down. Together everybody achieves more.)

Monday will be another Mufti Day & this will be my 4^th. To those who do not know what this is, it is a day where students & teacher are allowed to wear “anything” for FREE to school. It is some sort of “fashion day” for those who are vain. But it has been the Josephian culture to have a day off for not wear the school uniform. To all Josephians out there, on Monday, let’s dress smart & let us not try to be “sexy”.

Examination is just around the corner. It is just four days to go. I have not started my revision yet not completing my assignments. Sigh. Somebody please help me. To those sitting for the examination, all the best & do study smart. Do not be like me. =.=

There is something. Which do you think is better, Blogger or Facebook? =S I just got a Facebook account so do add me. My name is my full name. =.=

I guess that’s all. Even if there is anything to blog, I think I better keep it to myself. =.= “I need some privacy”.

The Lord is our helper, WE shall not be afraid. What can man do to us?

For those who are searching for an answer, the time has come. Speak to the Lord and he answer your questions. "Ask & it will be given to you; seek & you will find; knocked & the door will be opened to you." (Matthew 7:7)

So, take "V-Day" as a day to not only be focused totally on our "spouse" but rather to remember what the Lord has done for us on the Cross.

Additional Mathematics

It has been quite some time since I last proper wrote a post so I decided to write one tonight before 12am but I am not sure whether I can finish this in time or not. =.=

Tonight, I went to my aunt's house to have tuition with her & my cousins from 8pm-10.30pm. It was the first time in my life for me to go to her house to truly work otherwise I'll just go there to visit my aunt & my cousins.

I did 7 Additional Mathematics' Questions for the whole 2 1/2 hours. Talk about me being lengthy. ;) It was indeed an unforgettable occurrence for me as I had obtained more proficiency in my studies. xD

I didn't know precisely on what to write so before I end my post I would like to tell everybody chiefly to all the readers of my blog, don't be afraid to ask if you have any problems. I am sure there is always somebody there to help you especially our God in Heaven.

Make Me Happy!

Most people really do want to be happy. Our definition of what it means to be happy, however, is one important variable in that goal.

We sometimes think that if we had a million dollars we would be happy—but others who have the million have proven that the money alone does not make people happy. Sometimes we think if we had a more understanding mate we would be happy, or if we lived in a different part of the world—and so on and so forth.

We in America live in one of the most blessed nations on earth. People from other lands seek entry by desperate means—just to be here. We have freedom, plenty, peace and opportunities of all sorts. But the truth is, nothing will “make us happy”—that is something we choose to be by learning to be thankful and appreciative of our blessings (Psalm 100).

Johnson Oatman Jr. once wrote in a hymn, “Count your blessings, name them one by one; count your blessings, see what God hath done!” Happiness is a choice—and it’s up to you.

Redeeming the Time

The apostle Paul warned us to “walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil” (Ephesians 5:15-16), which prompts an interesting question: How much time do you and I have left to redeem?

The subject of death is never a pleasant one, but sooner or later we must accept the fact that “it is appointed for men to die once” (Hebrews 9:27)—and that this includes ourselves.

We may have anywhere from 60 years to 60 seconds left to live. Regardless, our focus should not be on how much time we have left, but how we’re spending it. Are we making good use of it? Are we walking circumspectly? Are we redeeming it?

The best way to answer yes to all three questions is found in the next part of Paul’s warning: “Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is” (Ephesians 5:17).

There is no better starting point.

Band Idol 2009

Band Idol 2009 was held on the 6^th & 7^th of February 2009 & it has all ended. Band Idol 2009 was indeed a great success as each and everybody worked together as a TEAM to come up with such a great event.

I would like to congratulate Daniel Balan for winning the Solo Category for the night. His performance really caught the crowd’s attention.

Not to forget, our own SJSMSB percussions who emerged Champion for the Ensemble Category. “Suthi Downgraded”, that is what they called themselves and they had put up an awesome show for the night.

Our 1^st runner-up, “The Geeks” had also put up a great show but unfortunately they did not managed to grab the Champion title. Don’t give up, work harder next time.

As for the 2^nd runner-up, “The 3A1’s” did a great performance but again I am sorry I don’t know what to say about them as I was not there when they perform.

Congratulations to all winners. To all who didn’t manage to pass through Audition, Preliminary Round, or didn’t win any award, don’t give up and do work for the next Band Idol in years to come.

Thank you Stage Crew(s) for your support on the stage and thanks a lot to those who had contributed directly or indirectly to the favourable outcome of Band Idol 2009.

To Serve or Be Served

Many men lust for power and control. When they attain it, however, they seek after more still. There is truth in the saying that “power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” This has become evident over and over again in the lives of despots.

The terribly sad part is that, although the lust for power seems to be insatiable, it is all too often equaled by the inability of those wielding it to use it wisely and for the benefit of all.

The world teaches that the more one exerts control and influence, the better he rules. God’s way teaches just the opposite—that our greatness is proportional to our service to others (Matthew 23:11), not the service of others to us.

It is not man’s inclination to do things God’s way, but His is the only one that works. Love and service are qualities far more essential to our lives than the world’s version of power—qualities we need to start practicing.

What Are Your Hands Saying?

A unique part of the human body is the hand. With the hand we can reach out to help, we can express an emotion, we can greet people and we can give and take things. Indira Gandhi was quoted as saying, “You cannot shake hands with a clenched fist.”

Her observation describes the difficulty that people and nations have in solving problems when anger, hatred or the desires to hurt and fight are present. A clenched fist is for fighting. The one who has this stance is not ready to negotiate and talk–they are ready to fight.

A woman of great value is one who uses her hands wisely. Proverbs 31:19-20 tells of hands that work well and are ready to help the needy. Hands that express friendship and respect say as much as a hundred words ever could.

Washington, D.C., is said to be the only city in the world where sound travels faster than the speed of light. Rumors and gossip have a speed all of their own—the especially destructive ones reaching speeds that boggle belief. Good rumors, on the other hand, take longer to travel from one place to the other.

Humans seem to yearn for gossip, even if they know that what they hear is untrue. No good comes from passing on rumor or gossip (though evil certainly can, as we read in Ecclesiastes 10:20). It is better to bring things into the light of truth than to conceal them in the darkness of rumor.

Enemy Number One

Once we reach adulthood and are able to make decisions on our own, we have a responsibility to search out hindrances to a happy life that may lie in our way. Enemy number one (for almost everyone) stares back at us from an unlikely hiding place—the mirror.

We choose what to do and where to be. We choose to remain in sorrow and self-pity or search for an escape. The first place to look for the source of any woes we may have is within ourselves.

Paul encouraged people to examine and test themselves (2 Corinthians 13:5). This is easier said than done. None of us wants to find the warts and bumps we carry, so they go ignored and untreated.

It is easier to blame other people, circumstances or things for our woes. That never brings a solution—it is like discarding the mirror.

Rather than do that, our first response should be to take a good, long, honest look in that mirror and be willing to change the flaws we see—otherwise, our enemy wins.

Obesity is a problem in the Western world. Unhappiness is also a problem there. Our societies seem to be rushing to and fro seeking contentment while giving in to every supposed pleasure. The result is what Adam C. Powell Jr. termed “a world of contented bodies and discontented minds.”

Giving in to all our wishes does lead to discontentment in time. Solomon had a thousand wives and did not find one that made him happy (Ecclesiastes 7:28). More is not always better—especially in the areas of food and entertainment.

Contentment includes both a healthy body and a healthy mind. Excess does not lead to happiness. In our search for meaning and joy in life, we can often unwittingly add new troubles. Obesity is often one of our own making. There may be physical reasons and causes, but we should seek help to correct them.

Happiness is a direction we can choose by being “temperate in all things” (1 Corinthians 9:25).

Some hold extreme points of view in religion, business or politics. Their points of view, however, in one sense are not as objectionable as the fact that extremists are often unwilling to hear the other side.

We all arrive at certain points of view, and the path there may include errors that will be corrected in time. The real problem arises when a person takes a stance so strong that other information is not even considered. Those with new facts or information are viewed as enemies.

“A fool has no delight in understanding, but in expressing his own heart” (Proverbs 18:2). Closed-minded arguments are often a mask for foolishness.

Iniquity – great injustice or unfairness

Obstinate – refusing to change your mind or stop what you are doing / hard to deal with

Virtue – behavior showing high moral standards / a good or useful quality

Stance – the way in which someone stands / an attitude or standpoint

Rebellion – an act of rebelling / opposition to authority or control

Divination – the use of supernatural means to find out about the future or the unknown

Arrogance – behaving in an unpleasant way because you think that you are better than other people

Airing – expressing an opinion or complaint publicly

Is Nothing Certain?

Life teaches us that everything changes—including ourselves. Our bodies age, ocean waves lap at the shores, forever changing them, and nothing stays exactly the same.

While it’s true that there is no such thing as total security on this earth, Jesus spoke about laying up “treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal” (Matthew 6:20). Here we see that the most important treasures lie beyond this world—in perfect security.

When we search for opportunities in this life and grasp those that become available, we place ourselves in a position of security that does not depend on hoarding what we have. But the greatest security of all is to be pleasing to God—for our future depends more on Him than on life itself. Of that we can be certain.

Slippers or Carpets?

A wise old saying goes something like this: “It is easier to protect your feet with slippers than to cover the earth with carpets.” The question we can always ask ourselves is, “What can I do?” Wise actions can make life easier and more pleasant for us, but we cannot insist that others change to make our lives more pleasant.

Job noted that life was short and full of troubles (Job 14:1). His friends were not a comfort and actually became a further problem. It was only when Job came to realize who he was in relation to his Creator that Job found peace.

We can find the path to peace if we sincerely search for it. When we find the path, we then need to walk with wisdom. Wisdom does for our life what slippers do for our feet. Take care of your feet—and your life.

Quitting Complaining

We can all find something about another person that we can complain about. He or she is always too early or too late, too nervous or too calm, too nosy or too detached, too fat or too thin. He has a bad taste in music; she holds too high an opinion of herself; he isn’t honest; she isn’t loving enough; he has a bad hairstyle—need we say more? We have a tendency to judge others and in time we may begin to dislike them.

If we want peace within ourselves, we must learn to stop judging others and judge only ourselves. We can change ourselves, but it is nigh unto impossible to change others.

The apostle Paul asked Church brethren why they would judge another since each person has to answer to God. He said we should rather judge ourselves (Romans 14:4, 10).

It is beautiful to realize that when we apply God’s way of doing things, we are the beneficiaries. To be at peace within yourself is a blessing God offers.

Our Unique Humanity

Joseph Kovach was 15 when he was sent to a Soviet gulag. He described his time of imprisonment this way: “When I look at the months, the years, they were empty. There’s nothing in terms of thinking, of planning, of remembering the past or planning for the future. It felt almost as though I was hibernating.”

Kovach was moved to a camp with a small library. Then his mind explored the possibilities of ideas...concepts...creativity. When released, he attended the University of Chicago.

In a PBS interview Kovach concluded, “Ultimately, it is our mental apparatus, our capacity to think, our capacity to deal with ideas, our capacity to find unities, coherences in variations—that’s what makes us human. We have a way of creating worlds for ourselves, in our heads, and sharing those worlds.”

Think about it. Mathematics, music, science, engineering—these are all distinctly human endeavors. We are unique because we are created in the image of God. Understanding your origins shapes your future.

Do you think I have good English? If you answered “yes” then I’ll say “no”. My English is not good instead it’s deteriorating.

Why?

I do no know why. Maybe it is because I speak Bahasa Melayu to much in school but now I have found a way to improve my English.

How?

Through blogging. When you blog, you tend to be careful of what you write so less mistakes will come out and you will be able you widen your vocabulary when read other bloggers’ blog. =)

Disciples for Today

When Jesus walked the earth, He chose 12 men to be His disciples. These men were remarkable only in the fact that they were so common. Not one was an important political figure, man of great wealth or visible social standing.

Simon Peter, Andrew, James, John and Philip were all fishermen. Matthew was a tax collector, a despised vocation in the eyes of Jewish society. Simon the Zealot was a political fanatic. Almost nothing is known of the background of the other five. Most of the women who followed Him were also common people.

A disciple is someone who imitates the teacher. A disciple of Jesus Christ is a person who imitates his or her Teacher’s life. True Christianity isn’t about accepting Jesus as your Savior and then going on as if nothing happened. True Christianity is God taking common people and turning them into uncommon disciples.

Christianity has enough uncommitted believers; Jesus is calling for committed disciples.

My Day

Can you see that Official Receipt of mine? xD what information can you get from there?

I'm not rich if you think I am. I am just a typical flautist from Kuching. I did not even know that I am already 15 years old and 15 days today.

I'm sitting for the The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) Practical Examination next year in April.

This will mark the first time I sit for music examination with this examination board.

In addition, my second time sitting for a flute examination.

Lastly, my first time sitting for a piano examination.

Argh, I need to finish my theory for Grade 5 by August next year to ensure that I can continue further in music education. As for now, I not even holding any certificate for theory but I am doing the Grade 3 theory book and soon starting with the Grade 4.

As for today, it was a Sunday but it was indeed an unusual one as I felt so weak early this morning because of some personal reasons and everything was transformed after I attend the church service. I really felt that God’s presence was there and was trying to tell me that, when I fell like I am in a dust bin waiting to be thrown, He will be there waiting for me to call upon Him and pick me up and be with Him. I really thank God for that.

After church, I went home and prepared for the Avant Garde rehearsal from 2-4.30pm. It was as usual just that the percussions joined us today and the room was thronged.

After the rehearsal, I went home to take a shower and then my dad brought my mum and I to the harbour to have a look at the ‘Kedah Ship’ – a military ship. I was something rather intriguing for me. =)

Next, I went to Tun Jugah to get a t-shirt with collar for the Avant Garde and I headed to tHe spring for ‘something’. I saw Winston Law the ex-president from Saint Joseph’s School Marching Show Band (SJSMSB) with his family. He really changed a lot since the last time I saw him. =.=

The last place that I went today was my aunt’s house where I washed a lot of plates. I never did that before. It was a miracle for me to do something like that. =) My family and I were there because my aunt was celebrating her wedding anniversary. *congratulations*

Till now where I am blogging and chatting with my friend Peggy about ‘somebody’. *bluek*

A Different Saturday Night

The audition for the MPYO yesterday was indeed horrible. Maybe I was over confident and I did badly during the audition. Don’t bother about it, it’s over now. xD

I just came back from my cousin’s wedding dinner at It Hng (Teochew) Restaurant next to the MBKS Swimming Pool. The dinner was a great success. I did not want to go due to some personal reasons but I was forced to attend the dinner so in the end I went. When I reached there it was just another dinner to me. I saw my car being the bridal car. It was ~~nice~~. =.=

The dinner started off well till suddenly my dad fell very sick so he drove back alone to my grandma’s house near Park Lane leaving my mum and I at the dinner. At that moment, my mum did not have the mood to eat anymore. (I was told that my dad vomited when he reached my grandma’s house after the dinner.) The dinner was rather lame. I felt so bored and I decided to go out and take some pictures before the dinner ends. =(

After the dinner, my cousin sent my mum and I to my grandma’s house to meet my dad. After that, we went to Green Road for ‘dinner’ as the dinner before was not filling at all. After ‘dinner’, we went to our aunt’s house just outside Green Road Secondary School as we wait for the Vios. In the end, we reached home safely till now. =)

p.s. No matter what, I am still grateful that I was able to attend the dinner. Thank you Lord for everything, Amen.

The Prodigal

Jesus told a parable of a young man who left home and wasted his inheritance on booze, wild women and partying. One day he finds himself eating from a pig trough with the pigs. He’s lost his money, his friends and his self-respect.

The young man decides that it would be better to return home and hire on as a laborer. When he arrives home he tells his father, “I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son” (Luke 15:21).

The young man expects his father’s wrath. Instead, his father is ecstatic because his son gave up his self-destructive ways and returned to his family. This is how God looks at you. No matter how hopeless life may appear or how many wrong deeds you’ve committed, God wants you to admit your mistakes, then ask for and receive His forgiveness and blessing.

On the 7th of September 2008, I enrolled for the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO) Audition. Well, I have been shortlisted and the audition is tomorrow. xD (approximately 15 hours from now)

I am not expecting to be in the orchestra as I do not meet the eligibility. The purpose why I enrolled is just to gain the experience. Whether I am in or not is not the point here, the important thing is that I want, will and must do my best by giving my best shot. =.=

Go and Sin No More

A popular episode from Jesus’ life is when some religious people
brought a woman caught in adultery to Him.
This was a serious crime, condemned by the Ten Commandments.
Jesus told the crowd, “He who is without sin among you,
let him throw a stone at her first” (John 8:7).

Many people think this is the end of the story.
How many times has someone caught in adultery,
robbery or cheating quoted Jesus as if God’s forgiveness
erases all standards of right and wrong?
And without moral standards,
no one has the right to judge anyone else.

But the last words of Jesus to this woman are often ignored:
“Go and sin no more” (verse 11).

God’s forgiveness doesn’t erase the responsibility
to know the difference between good and evil
and to choose the good.
God’s forgiveness frees us from destructive ways
so we can learn the ways that lead to a better life.

The Power of Thought

At a football game in Los Angeles, some spectators became ill with food poisoning. It was discovered that all had consumed soft drinks from the same machine. This was announced to the crowd. Within a short time dozens of people were vomiting and fainting. Two hundred people were hospitalized. It was then determined that the food poisoning had nothing to do with the soft drink machine. When this was announced, people’s symptoms began to disappear.

Negative thoughts can affect your physical health. King Solomon wrote, “A merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones” (Proverbs 17:22).

The most important lesson in learning to control your emotions is to learn to control your thoughts. As Solomon wrote, “For [as a person] thinks in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7). Get your Bible and read the wisdom of Proverbs. It will change the way you think and the way you feel.

"Day 5-Geo 23/1" / Independence Day ?

At last, PMR has just ended two days ago. Why I only update my blog today? Sorry everybody, I was busy with my life. I need to attend my music lesson on Friday and I need to settle some band business on Saturday and that is why.

On Friday, I was in school till 12pm as there is no any ISCF meeting. Right after my PMR we, Form 3 band members, had to attend a so-called meeting lead my Pn. Elisabeth our teacher-in-charge of the band. At that moment most of us were wondering what was the meeting all about. Pn. Eli was last. Only a few Form 3 members turned up. The meeting was about the “Spring Cleaning” and the “design for the Band Idol ticket” and the “Band Dinner.” After 30 minutes or so we break off with our own activities. I opened the band room for a while then I had lunch in school. Next, I followed Adnan to the church. Why? He wants to meet his kindergarten mate. Lolz.

Saturday was an interesting day for some of us. I woke up late and I only reached school before 8.30am while I was supposed to reach school at around 7.30am to 8.00am. When I reached school, I opened the band room and took out everything but not the instruments. Only some selected instruments were taken out of the band room. When the room was empty we mopped it. Then we sort out things which were not needed then we threw them away. At the end of the day, I was confused about what we are doing. If you do not understand me, you can have a look at the band room now as the band room now is extremely packed thanks to gnoY miK for not being there to help us sort things out with the uniforms but it’s not totally his fault as I did not informed him earlier so we had to wait till Monday.

For lunch, eight of us namely Adnan, Waie, Voon, Toh, Edmund, Khai, Anad and I received RM10 each for our lunch from Pn. Eli. Before that, we had actually received free can drinks by Pn. Kang. One of our teacher-in-charge of the band. We also received a free t-shirt. What a wonderful gift after a half-day of hard work.

Adnan, Waie, Toh, Anad and I next headed to Hopoh for lunch at “Sweetie”. After lunch, Anad and Toh had to leave us due to some “communication errors” with their parents. Three of us then walked to a music shop and we walked to the museum. It was not very interesting as the museum now is lacking of a lot of important stuff but there is something where we “climbed up” the “long-house” in the Sarawak Museum.

After the museum, we wanted to go to GRSS to have a look as Adnan never went there before. I thought it was a good idea to take the bus as our legs at that moment is in great pain after a day of walking in the streets but it turned out to be a disaster when we reached the bus station and the bus was not there yet and time is running out so we decided to walk there. Waie leaved Adnan and I after a while as he need to go home so both of us walked to GRSS. It was hot at that moment but we finally reached GRSS. It was useless I called it as we did not even greed KKJ nor the GRSB members when we reached there. So we just hang out there for less then half an hour till my dad comes and pick us up to school and sent Adnan home.
